IT’S ALL ABOUT BREW JOURNALS AND JOURNALING

What is going on my fellow brewers? We love beer here at Brew with Kits! How could one not? We love beer so much that we even journal about it.

That’s right, you know when you’re infatuated with someone so much you can’t help but to write about them? Yeah, don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about. Well, that is us with beer. Ok, maybe not that extreme but…

Today we are talking about beer journaling! I know it sounds funny, right? Taking notes and journaling about your brewing journey is going to do wonders for your home-brew, and in this post, I explain why.

Journal everything you do

Why Journal?

Think about it, how do you become better at something? By what means? Repetition. By writing everything down you’re not only doing the physical action of brewing your beer, but you are committing your routine deeper into your memory by recording that information.

We brew a lot of beer here at Brew with Kits but still, there are only so many kits you are going to be able to brew. You want to record all you do while brewing so that by reviewing your brew routine’s data, you can pick up on where you need to improve.

What Should You Record?

EVERYTHING! Really it is that simple.

If you want to get the most experience out of each time you brew, then take the time to make as many notes as you can. Write down everything! Your kit’s name, mistakes, times, dates, make sure you record as much information as you can.

By reviewing this information you will be able to tweak your brewing routine and look back to see where you need improvements or what worked really well.

What Should You Use to Record Notes In?

Now that you are brewing or are going to start brewing, you are going to want to go ahead and get a brew journaling notebook.

Any notebook will do, but here are some journals especially made for brewing beer:

1.BEER JOURNAL

2. BEER JOURNAL

These are sweet and are going to totally be worth their weight in gold (or brewing experience) once you fill them up with data from your brewing journey. They are by no means necessary and really any bound notebook would work just as great for what you need it to accomplish.

When Is The Best Time To Start?

Now. It doesn’t matter if you have started brewing or not, now is the best time to go ahead and get a beer journal. If you haven’t started brewing yet, sign up for our Brew and Drink Your Own Beer in 30 Days Challenge now.

Journal While Brewing

If you are already brewing record everything you do before (while getting ready), on (while actually brewing and cleaning), and after (while your beer is fermenting) your brew day.

Check out this post for an in-depth look into my full brew routine to see when I take my journaling notes.

Conclusion

By taking notes throughout your brewing process and reviewing them to learn where you can grow, you will become a more experienced brewer.

Learn not only from your successes but by your mistakes as well. There is no better way for you to do this than to take adequate notes from the very start of your brewing journey.

YOU CAN BREW IT!
