Are you kidding me?

In my list of 5 brew tools you should own, I knew some of you would say, “What, are you kidding me?” But hear me out.

Protect your gear

You’ve paid good money for your brewing equipment (even if it was a gift, someone paid good money for it), and it can and should last you a good while. Good brewing is mostly about cleanliness, and you want to be careful with how you clean. If you scratch up the inside of your fermenter, there’s a higher risk of infection from bacteria forming in the scratches.

That’s where microfiber cloths come in. They only cost a couple of bucks, but they help keep your fermenter in great shape.

How I use mine

I use mine all the time. I keep them handy while bottling to wipe up messes, to wipe down bottles after they’re capped for storage, and during cleaning to wipe out the inside of the fermenter.

In my full brewing routine I describe my quick fermenter cleanup: I spray it out with water using the showerhead or a hose, give it a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth, and let it air dry. Every time I cap a bottle, I wipe it down before it goes into storage.

Small cost, big payoff

For the little bit of money you’ll spend, your fermenter will have minimal scratches and keep serving you well. It’s one of those small changes that pays off batch after batch. You can brew it!
