Hey y’all! Once you’ve brewed a kit or two, you might start wondering how to make your beer a little more your own. Adding hops is one of the easiest ways. One I’ve linked to before is Amarillo pellet hops.

Hops are optional

First, I want to be clear: in my brewing with kits cost breakdown I say that hops are not essential to your brewing experience, but they’re an option you may want to explore. Your kit will make a great beer without them.

What a simple kit includes

In my post on why you should brew your own beer, I explain that a single beer kit refill includes your wort (a malt mixture) and yeast. Additional ingredients, like hop additions or brew sugars, need to be bought separately. Even with just a refill kit and regular sugar, you’ll still make a quality beer you’ll enjoy.

Make every batch different

Brewing with a kit may be simple, but your options for creating unique, great-tasting beers aren’t limited. Adding hops or trying different malts changes things up, and so does changing the brewing sugar. You can end up with a different beer every time.

A few options

Depending on how much you want, prices vary. Besides Amarillo, I’ve also linked to US Nugget hop pellets. Start with a small amount and see what you like.

Write it down

As I say in my Brewing with Kits 101 guide, record in your journal what kit you used and anything you did that the instructions didn’t include. If you add hops, note which ones and how much. That way you can repeat the beers you love.

Have fun experimenting. You can brew it!
