What is it?
In my gift ideas post I explain that Belgian candi sugar is another replacement for sugar in your brewing process. It looks like rock candy and gives the final product a super unique taste.
How I’ve used it
In my full brewing routine I share how I bought two of the cheapest kits available and upgraded them. With one of them, I used Belgian candi sugar. It’s a fun way to experiment and make an inexpensive kit your own.
Colors and versions
Belgian candi sugar comes in different colors for lighter, amber or darker beers, like this dark Belgian candi sugar. I haven’t tried them, but there are also soft (powder) versions, and liquid candi syrups like this amber Belgian candi syrup.
Buy the right color
With any spray malt, liquid malt extract or Belgian candi sugar, make sure you buy the correct color for the beer you’re brewing. A dark candi sugar goes with a dark-colored beer, and a light one with a lighter beer.
A gift idea, too
Belgian candi sugar might be one of the more unexpected gifts someone who brews with kits could get. It’s especially awesome paired with a Belgian-style beer kit refill, but that’s by no means a requirement. Write down what you used in your brew journal and enjoy the results. You can brew it!
